I invite you to get to know Scriotx, a creative member of 48hourslogo Design Community! In this interview he shares his true meaning of success, how his unique background gives him an advantage as a logo designer, and what he has to have nearby before he starts any design!
All the way from Quezon City, Metro Manila, in the Philippines, we’ve got Scriotx! He speaks Tagalog and a bit of English. Notably, Scriotx is a left handed artist, in the vein of Michelangelo Bounaroti and Leonardo Da Vinci. Looking through his portfolio you’ll notice a great attention to detail throughout the variety of styles he works in.
Without further a due, let’s see what Scriotx has to say!
____________________________________________________________
Hi Scriotx! I appreciate your time today. Let’s start with a little bit about yourself, what can you tell me about your name, where you’re from, and your immediate family?
Scriotx comes from my imaginary name, Greg Scriot. The story behind that is from my college days. Taking a course in BS Information Technology, one of my friends often called me Greg. I’ve got no idea how that started other than that. From there I always used that name on my files, until one time I accidentally typed “Greg Scriot” instead of “Greg Script.” I realized how cool of a name that was, so in May 2001, my name was born. Plus, I’m a fan of the X-Men, so there’s where the “X” comes from.
Right now I’m 33 years old. Married to my lovely wife, Geri, and together we have a 3 year old son, Jhaypee. These two inspire me everyday. For me, the true meaning of success is time for the family.
Very good! Have you always lived in Quezon City?
I’ve grown up in a countryside type of lifestyle. I embrace the virtue of art, as a gift, a life given talent.
Do you have any hobbies outside the realm of graphic design?
You definitely see me taking photographs out there, and I spend some of my extra time with my son watching cartoons. Basketball is my sport though, I watch NBA and the Local League very often.
Can you name a few of your favorite things for us?
Technology. Computer Parts and Rig related stuff, like the latest mobo & graphics cards. I love doing motion graphics. I’m a fan of Andrew Kramer (video-copilot) and Creative Cow. I also cook when I have the chance.
What is one of your least favorite things?
Nothing, not doing anything at all, it feels boring to me.
Let’s say you’ve been offered one superpower, what would you choose for yourself?
Well, I’ll take one with less responsibility.
I would be a teleporter, my dream is to travel and witness the hidden beauty of the world.

Where do you see yourself a year from now?
Nothing different, practically I love my job.
Unless there is a great offer from a big company, I’m open to any opportunities.
What food items are in your house or refrigerator that you’re most excited about?
Caesar Salad and Fruit Juices! We’re not getting any younger, so I’m getting health conscious these days.
SCRIOTX ON DESIGN:
Are you self-taught, or do you have any formal training?
Yes, being self taught is a big factor for me. I wanted to take design courses before, but I ended up taking Information Technology, which turns out to be a great advantage in my career. I believe that when you combine the way of art and technology you become extraordinary.
How long have you been a graphic artist?
It’s been 9 years as a professional, I started in 2004. Before that I worked as an I.T. associate, and a restaurant cook. Creating designs was just on the side then.

Where do you look to find artistic inspiration?
No where specific, but I love looking at colors. I admire clean, simple designs that have stories behind them.
Name your Top 3 Fonts and what you love about them:
I have a lot of favorite fonts in mind, but here are some of my random picks – Helvetica Neue Light, it’s simple and sleek. Trajan Pro, who doesn’t love this font? It’s very classy, serious, and formal. Eurostile Black, I like the boldness, the flexibility which is good for typographic styles of logos.
Are there any favorite’s among designs you’ve created through 48hourslogo?
I love most of my logos, I created them depending on my mood, so sometimes it turns out well but the client doesn’t like it (and vice versa), and sometimes the client over cooks it which turns out not too well to look at. Lyndarum Data & Electical is one I really like.
Do you have any must-have habits for when you design?
Music depending on my mood, and a mug of water.
What advice would you give another designer trying to find success like you have?
Words of Wisdom: Whatever you want to do in this world, stay focused on it. Believing on what you can do for others, is believing on oneself.
Is there anything specific that goes through your mind when you begin to work on a logo?
A lot, but I make sure that there is a paper and pencil on the table.
Are there any popular or famous logos that you think are due for an update?
Every logo has a story behind it, especially those from earlier decades. Redesigning takes guts and responsibility, because it’s going to be Make-or-Break. Given a chance, I would recreate the logo of SM Supermalls. An innovative and modern look which I think reflects well on the company brand.
How would you explain Logo Design in just three sentences?
Passion. Hark work. Believe. I think these three words speak more than three sentences.

What kind of work do you do outside of 48hourslogo?
I work as a creative supervisor in a corporate company and do a consultancy job at the same time.
How did you first find 48hourslogo?
I’m not sure if I was browsing the earth hour logo or looking for a clock image, but suddenly I saw the 48hourlogo logo and it caught my attention. I’ve been part of the Design Community for over year now, I joined in April of 2013.

Why have you chosen 48hourslogo over its competitor sites?
Great environment here, friendly people like my Kababayans. There are many talented designers, most importantly I’m comfortable here.
In your opinion, what is special about this site?
It’s good to look into the perspective of being a community of designers rather than a contest site.
How has your life changed since joining 48hourslogo?
I’ve become more solid now, more time with my family. I can focus on my consultancy job and being a member of this community makes me real proud.
What is one improvement you would like to see in the website?
Less bugs I guess? But I believe we’re almost there, improvement is perfection.
