He’s been married for a year and a half now. Rico and his wife have been blessed with a son, 5 months old, who he says “is the greatest gift of God to me.” Easy to communicate with, he is fluent in Indonesian, Javanese, and English.
In this interview we will reveal what it’s like when imagine designs, his go-to fonts, and what special message he has for his fellow 48HoursLogo.com designers.

So Rico, you would like to be a professional football player, tell us a bit about that.
Yes, my hobby is football, it’s in my blood! I aspire to be a football player, but it hasn’t happened yet, LOL. My favorite team is, of course, my home town AREMA! One time at a game in the stadium I was very impressed with the fans. So many were signing with gusto “We Are AREMANIA!” I would like to say “Regards the Soul” to all designers at 48HoursLogo, “Regards the Soul” is the slogan of the Aremania to the world.
They say that Malang is the “Paris” of East Java. What’s it like as a designer living in that city?
It’s a beautiful city, and the air is cold. I’m comfortable as a designer living here because the atmosphere is very supportive. It has its uniqueness like any other city, specifically the coolness and tranquility in the air.
So let’s talk design, how did you get into that profession?
I am an autodidact, but I also learned from my wife, she is a designer as well! I’ve read books on design and watched video tutorials on YouTube. With the book and my wife’s guiding I use CorelDrawX5 to create vector graphics.
That’s cool to share that type of interest with your wife! Do you ever get to work on any projects together?
No, I don’t get to work with her because she is an employee at an advertising company in our city. She does banners, business cards, poster and brochures. But there’s always a debate. She reminds me of the details and colors in any of my designs, haha.
What 3 fonts do you value the most?
Trajan Pro and Helvetica, they give the impression of luxury, and Ethnocentric, I love that it gives me a lot of wins!
Can you think of a design you’ve created through 48HoursLogo that you’re especially proud of?
My favorite design would be Active Courier, because the client in this contest gave me a great prize, haha! This is the most memorable experience for me at 48HoursLogo.com.
What goes through your mind when you begin to work on a logo?
haha, that’s a difficult question! When I want to design a logo from what was directed by the client, I try to select a project that I like because that will facilitate the next step in making the design.
Are there any must-have habits that help you when designing?
Oh yes, when I’m designing a custom design I like a cup of coffee, cigarettes, and reggae music. But eating, drinking coffee and smoking can make my stress disappear.
What was life like before you joined up with 48HoursLogo.com? How did you find the site?
I was a regular employee in a factory. I heard about 48HoursLogo.com from a friend who was a freelance designer and signed up. That was almost two years ago. I’m comfortable here because the other designers are friendly and we have a very nice online community. But a lot has changed for me personally since joining 48HoursLogo, I’ve been married, experienced the birth of my son, and am able to finance all of my families needs.
What is one improvement you would like to see at 48Hourslogo.com?
To increase the number of projects and the grand prizes, LOL!
Are there any popular/famous logos you think are due for an update or redesign?
I want to redesign the Adidas logo because I want to be as popular at the previous Adidas logo creator, LOL! Overall the logo is very good, simple and elegant, I just want to change the font used.
Finally, What advice would you give to other designers trying to find success like you have?
Pray, always learn new things, be honest, and be yourself!
Thank you Rico for taking the time to do an interview with me. I hope the right doors open in your life so you can achieve your dreams of football stardom! In the meantime, please keep cranking out awesome designs! You can see more of imagine’s work on his portfolio page here.
