Hi.
The Howard County Volunteer Firefighter's Association (HCVFA) represents and promotes the six volunteer fire companies in Howard County, Maryland.
We’re looking for a new logo.
You might have noticed that our current logo features a steam fire engine. When was the last time you saw a steam fire engine being drawn by teams of horses through Howard County? Exactly. We haven’t either.
It’s time to create a logo that reflects the 21st Century volunteer fire service, and we need your help to make it happen.

About HCVFA
The Howard County Volunteer Firemen’s Association was established in 1943 to “establish harmony, insure prosperity to cultivate fraternal fellowship among the volunteer fire departments, and promote the best interests of the volunteer fire and rescue personnel of Howard County.”
The Association works collaboratively with the member organizations and HCDFRS to serve, promote the interests of, advocate on behalf of, represent, and support the interests of its members as they provide community-based fire, rescue, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the citizens of Howard County. The Association includes the six volunteer fire corporations:
• Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
• Ellicott City Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Inc.
• West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
• Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.
• Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.
• Savage Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.
Design Considerations
As you prepare your submission, you might want to think about:
• HCVFA is part of the Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services (HCDFRS), a combination system of career and volunteer firefighters who provide fire, rescue, and emergency medical service (EMS) in Howard County, Maryland. You can learn more about us at https://www.howardcountymd.gov/Departments/Fire-and-Rescue.
• The logo might tie in elements and coloration of the HCDFRS logo, and it should reflect the mission, vision, and values of the organization. These elements can be viewed on the webpage listed above.
• HCDFRS is an “all hazards” department – we provide fire, rescue, and EMS – so the logo should reflect those aspects of the job.
• The logo might incorporate aspects of the official symbols of Howard County: https://www.howardcountymd.gov/About-HoCo/County-Symbols.
• For more information about the volunteer fire service in general, feel free to visit the National Volunteer Fire Council’s website at www.nvfc.org.
